Dead Fish at Musicbox Lisboa 2024

Exactly 359 years ago, the hardcore band from Vitória, ES, returned to Lisbon, but unlike last time, when the purpose of the visit was to explore the Lusitanian territory with the 30+1 years career tour, Dead Fish returns to Lisbon to promote their newest album, Labirinto da Memória.

Released on January 12, 2024, Dead Fish's newest album comes with a proposal more focused on "melodic hardcore", as lead singer Rodrigo Lima himself described it in interviews with various media channels. 

Although it debuted on Portuguese stages last year, we can safely say that the Dead Fish when they play in Portugal, they play at home, such is the symbiosis between the audience and the band, who came this time with their full line-up: Rodrigo Lima (vocals), Marcos Melloni (drums), Ric Mastria (guitar) and Igor Tsurumaki (bass).

Again Musicbox, na famosa Rua Rosa, em Lisboa, foi escolhido para os dois dias de evento, a noite de sábado estava quente e o público animado. Antes do show ter início, Rodrigo estava na banca de merch ajudando nas vendas e conversando com os fãs, tornando tudo uma experiência digna de um show que a comunidade underground gosta. Com alguns minutos de atraso do que estava planejado, o show da Dead Fish teve seu início sem muitos rodeios. O show começou com “A Urgência”, do álbum Zero e Um, de 2004, que já veio pra deixar um gostinho na boca de quem ainda não tinha certeza de ir no show do dia seguinte, que foi totalmente em comemoração aos 20 anos do álbum.

With a Palestinian flag taking up space on one of the speakers, the show continued with other songs from different albums such as Contra Todos (2009) , Ponto Cego (2019) and Afasia (2005).

Halfway through the show, the audience could experience moments of Rodrigo's warm speeches, see him wearing his MST of one of the fans in the audience to sing the song that bears the same name, but also funny moments such as the lead singer letting out a beautiful and simple "fuck you" in good old Portuguese style, an impromptu performance of Michael Jackson's Thriller with the right to shout "this is Michael Jackson, boy" followed immediately by the guitar and drums speeding up the next sound. The show was full of moments that stood out for fans who are so far away and who have had to wait a year to relive all this energy. The full house singing "Venceremos" was one of those moments.

O show encerrou com Afasia, seguida de Sonho Médio com a certeza de que mesmo jogando em “casa” a banda capixaba sempre que passa por Portugal cativa cada vez mais emigrantes brasileiros que matam a saudade de seu país com as letras diretas, honestas e sinceras do Dead Fish e portugueses que se encantam com a maior banda de hardcore do Brasil.
