PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS + JUNKBREED AT LAV 2024

On July 18, Lisboa ao Vivo, a venue that unconditionally supports heavy metal in Portugal, hosted Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, and the Portuguese band Junkbreed, who opened the show and warmed up the atmosphere, even though the crowd was below expectations.

Junkbreed

Portuguese quintet Junkbreed is a band that MetalJunkbox has followed closely since the release of their debut album "Music for Cool Kids" in 2021.

Even with a small crowd present, the band took to the stage full of energy, led by frontman Pica, who gave his all and proved that the stage is sacred, they had fun and warmed up the engines for what was to come in an exquisite way, keep Junkbreed on your radar!

Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons

The return of Mister Phil Campbell and his bastard sons to Portuguese stages since the VOA - Heavy Rock Festival in 2022, presented a naturally more mature band with a new album in their luggage, "Kings Of The Asylum" released in 2023, the first work with vocalist Joel Peters.

Opening the festivities with the great "We're The Bastard" and "Freak Show", the Welshmen made it clear that this night, as with all their recent tours, would not just be a tribute to the eternal Lemmy and Motörhead. There would be plenty of songs from all three albums in the Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons discography and this was confirmed at the end of the concert when we counted 7 of the band's songs among the 15 played.

But there's no way around it my friends, clearly the majority of the audience was there for the mystique of Phil Campbell and his incredible days as Motörhead's guitarist and when the first chords of "Going To Brazil", a classic from the album 1916 released in 1991, began, it was followed shortly afterwards by another absolute classic, "Born to Raise Hell", this time with the right to play a game with the audience by vocalist Joel Peters.

In fact, one of the highlights of the concert was the dedication, rapport and fun that Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons left the LAV, with a lot of interaction, requests for offenses to bassist Tyla again by vocalist Joel Peters and always showing the middle finger between sips of beer, some connectivity was created with the audience present.

There was still time to go through Phil Campbell's unique and fabulous solo album "Old Lions Still Roar" released in 2019 and the song chosen was "Straight Up" which on the album is sung by none other than Rob Halford. Other classics and epic moments with "God Save The Queen" by the Sex Pistols, "Ace of Spades", "Killed by Death", "Heroes" by David Bowie and "Overkill" kept the crowd hooked until the end and ended a Thursday in a sensational way, those who went certainly didn't regret it!
